Welcome to GIS at the FAST |
Student data, and work, from Spring Semester 2013 will be deleted from the H:drive/ifast on May 22nd. Please back-up your data.
AHEC is removing student access to the FAST doors on May 18th. Please be prepared. If you aren't taking summer classes, you won't be able to get into the FAST after May 18th.
The Facility for Advanced Spatial Technology (FAST) Lab forms the core of geo-spatial analytical activity at the University of Colorado Denver as a partnership between the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences/College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering/Civil Engineering and the School of Urban and Regional Planning. This multidisciplinary laboratory provides state-of-the-art GIScience technology (geographic information systems, remote sensing, GPS, and cartography) for teaching and research
UCD faculty and students from all disciplines using spatial information technologies are invited to access FAST resources and share our vision.
1) For students enrolled in classes in the current semester, access to the FAST is automatically generated from the ISIS system. This is not immediate, however. Access is set up just prior to the first day of classes and then updated at the conclusion of the add/drop period. So, for students who add a class during this period, there will be a slight delay.
2) For current UCD students not enrolled in a geo-spatial class, please email the Coordinator (fast@UCDenver.edu) and CC your FAST Faculty representative, for endorsement.
3) For NEW UCD students and faculty, please be sure to set up your university account. See Set up Your Access for first-time user instructions. Additionally, you can request door access here.
4)Logging into the FAST. Once you have set up your access, ALL students (new and returning) and faculty now access the lab using the UNIVERSITY domain. Students no longer access using the student domain. Thus, please ensure that you chose UNIVERSITY in the dropdown menu, or from the FAST computer lab itself, use university\username.
5) Check the FAST Calendar to see peak usage times, both in terms of the physical classrooms and server usage. During peak teaching times, the lab may run slowly, or may not be accessible (either physical space or remote access licenses).
7) For door access, please place a request through Set up Your Access if you are not enrolled in a class. For students enrolled in a class, door access is set up with the ISIS class lists.
8) Site Licenses for GIS Software:
-
Any Faculty/Staff of UC Denver (either campus) may request free ESRI GIS software (ArcGIS, ArcInfo, IMS, SDE, etc.) for use on University-owned computers. Please make software requests via the link on the left "ESRI Site License"
-
Students may request a 1-year student license. If you are enrolled in a GIS class, please make these requests to your instructor.
We keep a limited number of these licenses in the FAST as well and you can request these via the link on the left "ESRI Site License".
Announcements will be posted to the link called Server Status. Check this page before planning to use the lab late on Saturday, or during inter-session. FAST Servers will reboot daily between 4 and 5 AM, for maintenance and updates. Online users at this time of the morning must be prepared. Save early, save often!
The FAST servers occasionally need maintenance. The hours between 9 PM on Saturday evening and 9 AM on Sunday morning during sessions and all hours during inter-sessions are reserved for server maintenance. You may use the lab, but if maintenance is required, you may be asked to save your work and log off the system during those hours.
